Sony announced ultrasmall hybrid fuel cells for phones

Sony Corporation prototype fuel cell system small enough to fit in with one hand. The size of the system is about 50 × 30 mm, which was realized by combining the fuel cell, Li-polymer secondary batteries, control scheme and so on.This is the first time that Sony showed a prototype of a practical fuel-cell system, including, for example, secondary batteries and control circuits. The company exhibited the results of evaluation system for small fuel cell 2008, which runs from April 30 to May 2, 2008 in Atlanta, Ga.As for the fuel cell for mobile devices, Sony has already announced the results of the evaluation of fullerenes type of solid polymer electrolyte membrane and MEA (membrane-electrode assemblies), developed with the membrane. At this time, the company plans to commercialize new fuel cell system.
